(Please note: This is my first The Host fanfiction. ^_^ Hope you guys like it.
A bit of info: This started when I asked the question: What would the Souls do with the vampires? The werewolves? How would they cope if both stories coexisted with a bit of truth? Well, I'm about to find out.)
Curling red hair, obviously dyed from the bright fire red it appeared to be, hung around a young woman's shoulderblades. Her eyes were a deep, unsettling, golden brown and so tinted by the gold that they almost looked yellow. Her skin was darker, more leaning towards light brown than the pale porcelin she saw around her. She was shaking again, I could tell from the way she quivered in his hands. The Seeker had followed her, caught her, though she'd run like the wind. She fought like a cornered animal, fists flying as she struck at anything that came close to her. Her light yellow sundress seemed too light for this cold weather, the weather of early winter. Her feet were bare. As I watched she seemed to explode in a mass of red and orange fur. It looked like fire, the way it moved in the wind with the sandy blond mingling with the deep russet and flecks of pure gold and white thrown in. Her paws were gold along with the tips of her ears, tail, and maw. She was huge, at least the size of a fully grown grizzly bear. Shesnapped her jaws left and right, jerking and throwing the Seeker away. His screams must have brought more. In a matter of seconds, mere were flogging. At least ten more surrounded her. She spun, looking for an opening. She must've found one. She bolted. I gave chase.
*Switching to Tessa's point of view*
I fled the Seekers. They were everywhere. I hadn't meant to transform but I did. I lost my temper again. I knew if they got me my Pack was done for. Out minds were linked, you see. I felt the others before I heard them, all clamoring for my position so they could come help. "No! Go away! You can't help! Run, hide! Cast me out!" I put all the weight i could behind the commands. I was only a Beta, though. What could I do, except flee and try not to get caught? I didn't notice the cliff in front of me or the ground under my paws though I suppose a more correct term would be the lack of ground under my paws. I dropped like a stone but perhaps I'm getting ahead of myself. You should at least know a bit about me. My name's Tessarin Inferno. I live in a world that revolves around the magical. That is, I used to. I suppose I still do but now my world is everyone else's, too. You see, parasites calling themselves Souls arrived and started annihilating us. The vampires, stupid bloodsucking leeches, seem to be able to hold their own for now but us werewolves are dieing out fast. Whenever they catch one of us, they pretty much get the rest of that Pack hand-delivered to them personally. That's why we have to be very careful around them. That's why I'm the worst at sneaking. You see, I'm not careful. I'm not cautious. I strike fast and hard and leave ruin in my wake. Unless I'm being chased again and, believe me, that happens often. Anyway, I barely felt the impact of the fall or the pain, though I knew it to be at least the three-story drop. They'd found Arik. Oh, no. They had Arik. Arik's the head of our Pack. I had to do something. I did the only thing I could to save myself. I split from the Pack. I felt the disbelief fade from my conciousness, heard the voices of my Pack leave me. I felt the pain. My shoulder was killing me along wityh my ankle, my wrist, and my chest. I was surprised I hadn't broken more bones. Oh, well. I could doctor myself up in a moment. I shook myself and got to my paws. The was difficult. I only had two paws to stand on and even then I was pushing it. I tried not to whine as I fell back down. Oh, well. It looked like I wasn't going anywhere anytime soon. Instead I just lied there and listened. Before I knew it, I was asleep.
