I like him...to an extent...in all of the memories with Mel he is wonderful...but with Wanderer his is really mean...so I don't totally like him ...but even then...at the end he is friends with Wanderer...so I still like him...its like 15% dislike...but 85% like...=)

I think what made me hate Jared most was when he threw her into the wall. Personally, my ratio is 80/20. I don't like men who hit women. Even in books.

oh ...I see your point thehostwriter...so I change my ratio to 80/20 too... but I don't think I could go lower...because a lot of the stuff he does is not bad from his point of view...and he doesn't know Wanderer like we do

and you know the part where wanderer tells him to lie to her and he gets all nice and tells her not to do it? I read a stephenie meyer interview where she said that he wasn't really lying.

I agree...he cares for her...and at the end he cares for her a lot...but still loves mel...Ian's the one who fully loves Mel...I think the end where he turns all good ups his ratings...=)

I think that Jared and Mel fit together. They're both so... idk, just so antagonistic sometimes. And agressive and fit. I like Jared in Mel's memories. I can understand how he could hate Wanda, though. In his eyes, Wanda took away his true love. Then at the end, he redeemed himself. Why I don't completely love him is because of how hard he is, but more because of how insensitive he is. Like the part where he and Ian were talking, and he said "It was sort of an... experiment." "An experiment?!" "Mel punched me!" "Melanie... punched... you?" "Well it sure wasn't Wanda! You should've seen her face." "You idiot! Didn't you even pause for one second to think what it would do to her?" "To Mel?" "No, to Wanda!"

That whole scene. But at least Jared sticks up for her at Kyle's tribunal. It pissed me off when I read that he'd kind of believed Wanda and Mel since the very first fight scene in the hostage area, and he was just being stubborn. So I guess, all things considered, I'd say he's 75% like for me, 25% dislike. Cool

yup...he's insensitive...but then again...though some of the stuff he does is terrible...I still feel for him...because seeing Mel after such a long time but knowing someone else is in her body and Mel might still be in her body too...that has to be traumatizing...so I think he wanted to know for sure all the stuff about Mel before he did anything else...or thought of anything else...so he overlooks a lot of Wanda's emotions...whereas Ian cares for Wanda and Mel is just part of the package...but he doesn't really care for her...so he takes care of Wanda's emotions and doesn't really care about Mel's...though he is more courtious...like he asks permission of Mel to be with Wanda and whatnot...

I like Jared a lot. I could picture my boyfriend acting like that were I taken over by a worm... soul. You can't blame him for being so insensitive, because most of the book he thought of Wanda as a leech that had taken his true love away from him. By Mel's memory, I am almost positive that he was blinded by his need to be with Mel again.
Besides, to see Melanie's body being used by someone else when it was the one thing she did not want to happen must have been hard.
It's like when your boyfriend, or girlfriend, has something traumatic happen to them and you can't do anything to make it better. He couldn't even hold her...
So... I like him.

He was hardened and no one ever asks to be hardened so I can't hold it against him.

This is kind of random but I was just thinking...

Remember when Melanie wanted to have sex with Jared in the cabin but he told her no because he didn't want to get her pregnant? Well, I was thinking... they should have went ahead and done it anyway (and every night after for that matter) because didn't Melanie jump down an elevator shaft shortly afterward? There's your birth control XD

I do. I think they would see it as a 'damaged' host, or whatever they call them. One that can't be used. Either that or they would 'repair' it by extracting the fetus. Because inserting a soul into a pregnant host without it's consent wouldn't be fair and I doubt they'd just let the human run 'wild' until it gave birth.

Especially in Wanderer's case. She had it tough enough as it was. She didn't need all of the extra physical and emotional stress that comes along with bearing children.

I don't like Jared so much! He's a really big jerk. But I don't....HATE him! I just don't like him with Wanda. I like Ian with Wanda. I do like Mel with Jared, though. I don't know....It's so confusing!

for me it's 100% LOVE!! i LOVE Jared!! he's just my type of guy....NOt the hitting part....never.....but i look through his eyes and see his life gone, his love gone, his family gone.....i mean come on, anybody would be PISSED if your love died and then came back as a totally different being....ya i would be throwing punches too.

i don't understand the hate for jared? his love for her is so pasionate...he hasn't let go of her since she got captured. i mean, her leaving him is kinda like the icing on the cake..with the whole Earth being invaded and that stuff.

I'm sure the souls would have put a soul in the hypothetical baby if it had already been born, but it wouldn't likely survive Melanie's fall, and I can't imagine the souls would try too hard to save it, because then what would they do with it? They would just believe that that particular host was too damaged and that a pregnant host would be bad for a soul.

Anyways, about Jared. I don't like him. I don't care how angry he was or how terrible his life had been. The extent of his cruelty to Wanderer is unacceptable in my mind. As Ian put it, "Just because she isn't human, do you think that means she doesn't feel pain?...That she doesn't feel just like a girl who's been beaten-- beaten by us?" Jared knew that he was being cruel, everyone told him so, but he didn't care. Yes, he cared later when he knew that Melanie was okay, but that was in part about hurting Mel. If she had never come back, Jared wouldn't have seen any wrong in his treatment of Wanderer. Any girlfriend would like Jared's response to Wanda, but any other person would see it more clearly as far from noble.
